OBITUARY ~ ROBERT ELSTON "BOB" LINN
March 21, 1929 ~ March 11, 2018

Robert Elston Linn was born on March 21, 1929 to Jackson Linn and Mildred (Pugh) Linn in Jefferson Township, Adair County, Iowa. He died on March 11, 2018 at the Mount Ayr Health Care Center.

His family initially farmed in Grove township and then moved to the family homestead in Jefferson Township in 1937. He attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Menlo High School in 1947. The brothers Jack and Bill along with Bob were known to be ornery through their growing up years which their mother was always willing to share stories about with the grandchildren. Bob skipped school during his senior year to buy his first Hereford cow. He farmed for years with his father and grew the Hereford herd and they were one of the last families in Adair County to farm with horses.

The eligible bachelor met and married Judy Krueger, from Creston, Iowa, on February 26, 1967 thanks to the help of his brother Bill and her sister Pat who were neighbors. His daughter Christine and son Lee were the apple of his eye. Lee could be found at his side from the time he was two and Bob taught him all he knew about farming and working hard. Bob enjoyed company and giving tours of the cattle and promoting Linn Herefords and going to cattle sales. He never knew a stranger. Allis Chalmers tractors were found on the farm once the Persian draft horses were gone. He still enjoyed looking at draft horse journals and going to draft horse shows later in life.

Bob was a member of rural Jefferson Center Church and was active through the years in many different positions and upkeep of the grounds. Upon retirement he continued to enjoy attending country church at Wishard Chapel north of Mount Ayr. His grandchildren Elisha and Megan were his pride and joy and enjoyed having them at the farm when they were little. Bob and Judy retired from the farm and moved to Mount Ayr in 2003 as they were great supporters of their grandchildren and their activities. Great-grandchild Jayden filled his later years and he looked forward to seeing him each day.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents Jackson and Mildred Linn of Stuart, Iowa; brothers Jack Linn of Richfield Minnesota and Bill Linn of Casey, Iowa.

He is survived by his spouse of 51 years Judy Linn of Mount Ayr; son Lee Linn of Stuart; daughter Christine Doubleday of Mount Ayr; granddaughter Elisha Doubleday and her son Jayden Doubleday of Mount Ayr; granddaughter Megan Wicks and husband Devan of Ankeny; nieces and nephews surviving are Jon (Giti) Linn, Brad (Caryn) Linn, Craig (Ann) Linn, Janet (Wayne) Woolever, and Elaine (Ahmed) Linn.

There will be a visitation from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm on Sunday, March 18 at Wishard Chapel Community Church with memorial services beginning at 2:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Wishard Chapel Community Church, 1796 State Hwy 169, Mount Ayr, IA 50854 to help blacktop a small portion of the gravel parking lot.

Services: 2:30 pm – Sunday, March 18, 2018 Wishard Chapel Community Church, Pastor Bill Armstrong officiating. Interment was made at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa.
