July 06, 1929 ~ December 18, 2017Richard Lyle Pierick, 88, of Crystal, formerly of Des Moines, IA, died Monday afternoon, Dec. 18, 2017 at Centennial Gardens Care Facility in Crystal, MN.
Richard was born July 6, 1929 at Des Moines, IA to Katherine and Joseph Pierick. He grew up on their dairy farm. He graduated from East High in Des Moines. His first job was at Des Moines Steel Co. as a welder.
Richard was drafted into the US Army. Richard served in Korea for nine months of his two years, and returned to work for Des Moines Steel Co. He met and married Cora Lovena Hall on June 29, 1956. In August of 1956 he enrolled at Iowa State and graduated on Aug. 19, 1960 with a Mechanical Engineering Degree. He worked for Diamond Laboratories and later General Mills. He was transferred to Kansas City and later to Mpls with Pillsbury Co. His last job was with Checker Engineering. He also had Bancroft Apts. on Southside Des Moines. Four children were added to this union: Raymond Lyle, Kenneth William, Ryan Keith and Jenine Diane.
Richard retired August 15, 1997. He became the full-time manager of the Bancroft Apartments. Richard was the youngest of eight: Margaret, Catherine, Frances, Deloris, Raymond, Agnus and Clair.
He was preceded in death by oldest son, Raymond Lyle at 29 years of age.
Survivors are his wife Lovena; three children, Kenneth Pierick of Las Vegas, Ryan Pierick and Jenine Pierick of Mpls; grandson, Lance Cpl Dalton Ray Hall; granddaughter, Samantha Nichole Pierick; special niece, Ginger Saenz of Des Moines; two special sisters-in-law, Glenda Marlow and Linda Gayle Liljeblad.
Memorials are to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Dec 28, 2017 at Armstrong Funeral Home – Mount Ayr, Iowa, Officiant Pastor Terry Roberts Visitation: 10:00 am to 11:00 am, Thursday, Dec 28.
Military Honors at Cemetery: Ringgold Post #172 and the Iowa Honor Guard Unit.
Interment was made at Benton Cemetery – Benton, IA.
