OBITUARY ~ MINNIE LUCILLE (SHELDON) BRECKENRIDGE
March 28, 1926 ~ September 10, 2017

Minnie Lucille Sheldon Breckenridge was born March 28, 1926, in Diagonal, Iowa, and passed away Sunday, September 10th at the Clearview Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, at the age of 91.

She was the daughter of Orville and Mary Steward Sheldon. The family moved to Mount Ayr during her grade school years and she graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1945.

After graduation, she worked as an operator for the telephone company. At a later time, she joined Billy in running the Breckenridge Store until it closed in 1991.

On August 17, 1947, she married Billy Breckenridge. To this union were born two children, Sally and Bill. They made their home in Tingley where she lived until health required her to move to Clearview Home at age 84.

Minnie loved her home, was a good cook, and especially good at growing plants. She loved watching the wrens and other birds from the deck of her lake home and enjoyed following sports on TV, especially the NBA. She was a 4-H leader when Sally was a member, a member of the Tingley Tea Club, and enjoyed participating in the couples’ card club with Billy during their years in Tingley.

Minnie was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Billy, as well as her siblings (spouses): Glen (Mildred) Sheldon, Velma (Harris) Hill, Leo (Audrey) and Bob (Anne) Sheldon.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sally Drake (Phillip) of Medford, WI, and Bill (Diane) of Clive; grandchildren Tony Drake (Vickie), Andrew Drake (Rose), Arica Drake, Emily Lyons (Jason), and Andrea Amick (Aaron); great-grandchildren Lauren Niedemier (Jake), Dylan Drake, Conor Lyons, Owen Lyons, and Collins Amick as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Life Celebration Open House in memory of Minnie will be held Sunday, October 1st from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Tingley Community Building. Remembrance sharing will begin at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Tingley Methodist Church or the American Diabetes Association. The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff of Clearview Home for their care and understanding during the past seven years.

Life Celebration Open House will be held 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 1, 2017 with Remembrance Sharing at 2:30 p.m, Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Tingley Community Center, Tingley, Iowa. There will be a private burial at Tingley Cemetery, Tingley, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers memorials made be made to the Tingley Methodist Church or the American Diabetes Association.
