OBITUARY ~ JUNE (WOOD) STEINMAN
June 08, 1923 ~ July 23, 2017

June Steinman was born to Ray and Dora (Spurgeon) Wood June 8, 1923 in Grant City, MO. She was welcomed home by five siblings, Flossie, Lucille, Earl, Stella and Ermon. She would later be joined by twins Art and Effie.

June grew up in Grant City, MO and Leon, IA. As a teenager, she went to California where she worked for Bird’s Eye Frozen Foods. June returned to Grant City and on November 6, 1944 she married Eldon Pinkerton. After Eldon got out of the Army they made their home in Creston, IA. Two daughters were born to this union; Judy Ann and Sharon Kay. June and Eldon later divorced.

On August 21, 1953 June married Art Steinman and she moved her family to Delphos, IA. June remained in Delphos until entering Mount Ayr Health Care in December of 2006. June worked part-time as a cook for the Delphos school and was the last postmistress for the town of Delphos.

une always raised a large garden and willingly shared with neighbors and family. When her daughters had homes of their own she always canned enough to share with them.

June hosted many family dinners with her homemade chicken and noodles, dinner rolls and pies. There was also date pudding for nephew, Ron. On the holidays, June was always up in the middle of the night to get that large turkey in the oven. She baked several pies for Thanksgiving so everyone had their favorite.

June passed away July 23, 2017 at the Mount Ayr Health Care Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; 8-year-old great-granddaughter Charlcey Bowen; sons-in-law James Picker and Larry Bowen; her siblings and their spouses; Flossie (Bob) Lenz, Lucille (Ben) Lillie, Earl (Roberta) Wood, Stella (Bill) Hendrix, Ermon (Emma) Wood, Effie (Nelson) Miller and Art (Marcella) Wood.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Judy Picker, grandson Kenton Picker, granddaughter Kendra (Matt) Biermann, great grandchildren Sydney and Gaven Biermann all of Glenwood, IA; daughter Sharon Bowen of Benton, IA, grandson Judd Bowen, great-granddaughter Macey Bowen of Kellerton, IA, grandson Eric Bowen, great-grandchildren Carter and Abby of Dallas Center, IA, grandson Austin Bowen of Benton, IA and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Open visitation will be held at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Sunday, July 30 from 1-8 p.m. with graveside services to be held at 2 p.m., Monday, July 31, 2017 at the Benton Cemetery in Benton, IA with Pastor Bill Armstrong officiating.

Casketbearers include Kenton Picker, Kendra Biermann, Matt Biermann, Judd Bowen, Eric Bowen, Austin Bowen. A memorial fund has been established in June’s name to be decided at a later date.
