May 06, 1954 ~ December 27, 2016Robert Duane Jones was born at Diagonal, Iowa to Wesley Thomas & Mary Elberta (Cregeen) Jones. Bob grew up at Diagonal and attended Diagonal School until his junior year. Bob completed his high school education in Oklahoma.
Bob’s working career touched people because he desired to serve. He became a police officer and he was on the Elk City, Oklahoma Police Dept. Bob would also become a Oklahoma State Trooper but would rather be a police officer. He returned to law enforcement at Chanute, OK and was the police chief in Picher, OK from 2002 to 2005. Bob was also a security officer at businesses and for events.
Bob returned to Iowa and he worked at Bunn-O-Matic in Creston and at other businesses. Bob enjoyed fishing and hunting. In his earlier years, Grandma Cregeen was a fishing partner of his.
Bob was afflicted with a series of strokes that limited his ability to work. He had recently been diagnosed with cancer. Due to increased health care needs, Bob became a resident of Clearview Home where he passed away on December 27, 2016.
Survivors include his children Chris Jones, Dallas Jones, Jeramie Jones, Linda Jones, Melinda Jones, and Amy Schmitz; grandchildren include Trentyn, Elayna, Izayah, Hayden, Aydin, Cameryn, Charlytte, Jessilee Nichole Rooney, Tylor Michael Rooney, Tanner James Rooney, Breanna Daniel LaFon Cline, Login Eugene, Tori Jones, and Tricia Jones; his mother Mary (Joe) McCall; two brothers John Jones and Jason Jones; four sisters Marcia Lonetti, Donna Blunk, Delores Birkinsha, and Zelda McCall; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Wesley Jones; maternal grandparents Stanley & Fern Cregeen; paternal grandparents Merven (Sonny) & Lily Jones.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
Services were held Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa with Pastor Bill Armstrong officiating.
Honorary pall bearers were John Jones, Jason Jones, John Birkinsha, Joe McCall and Mike Monaghan.
