OBITUARY ~ BETTY ELAINE (MEED) JACKSON
September 11, 1930 ~ January 28, 2017

Betty Elaine (Meed) Jackson was born September 11, 1930 in Mason City, Iowa to Dortha Mae (Palmer) Meed and David Casper Meed and passed away on January 28, 2017. She was educated in the Des Moines area schools.

Betty was united in marriage to Leland Rex Jackson on December 10, 1950 in Des Moines, Iowa. They resided in Des Moines for a short time where Sherry was born and later moved to Wichita, Kansas where Barry and Roland were born. In 1962, they moved back to Rex’s home town Kellerton, IA, where they remained and raised their family. Betty was a homemaker and worked as a nurse’s aide at local area hospitals and at local nursing homes.

Betty was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Iowa. She was an avid reader enjoying James Bond thrillers, Perry Mason mysteries, and many other different kinds of stories. She was an accomplished seamstress making clothes for herself and her children. She also enjoyed crocheting and embroidery work. She had a vast love of many different kinds of birds and flowers, having many in and around her home.

Left to cherish Betty’s memory are her children, Sherry Hancock of Lamoni, Barry (Pam) Jackson of Kellerton and Roland (Fran) Jackson of Mount Ayr; nine grandchildren, Heather (Sam) Anderson, Jerica (Chad) Bolinger, Ben (Amanda) Jackson, Gabe (Kate) Hancock, April (Callin) Prieskorn, Arianna Jackson (friend Mike), Rocky (Christine) Hancock, Mandy Perrigo (friend Jake) and Sidney Davenport (friend Trevor); sister Virginia Horton of Apache Junction, AZ; seventeen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Rex in 1992; and great-grandson David Hancock in 2017.

Services were held Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa with Pastor Bill Armstrong officiating.

Casket bearers were Heather Anderson, Jerica Bolinger, Ben Jackson, Gabe Hancock, April Prieskorn, Arianna Jackson, Rocky Hancock, Mandy Perrigo and Sidney Davenport.

Honorary casket bearers were Trevor Anderson, Bailey Anderson, Kole Paxson, Chloe Hunt, Gavon Hancock, Koltyn Hancock, Mitchell Jackson, Helo Nong, Mackenzie Jackson, Isabella Hancock, Shawn Prieskorn, Mason Hancock, Kaydyn Bolinger, Kelsey Bolinger, Roxine Hancock, Kelton Bolinger, and Ray Gene Still.

There was an Eastern Star Service held at 7:45 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2017. The final resting place is Maple Row Cemetery at Kellerton, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
