Edwin W. STEWART was born in Warren County, Illinois, May 1, 1865, where he spent his youth on the farm with his parents. He was the third of twelve sons, all of whom were born in Warren County, Illinois. In 1884 the family moved to Ringgold County, which has since been the home of their father. Here the boys grew to manhood. Edwin completed his education in the Mt. Ayr schools and then spent a few years in the West. For the past twelve years Chicago has been his home, where his occupation was that of contractor and builder, being a member of local union No. 10 of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners. He was a member of Mayflower lodge, K. of P. and always took an active part in its work. In the 1896 campaign he was secretary of a McKinley club. His health failed about two years ago and he returned to Ringgold County where he spent nearly a year recruiting his health. Since last September he was compelled to give up work entirely. During the last week of his illness two of his brothers were with him to minister to his needs and gave him kind attention until his death which occurred February 8, 1904. The body was brought to Tingley last Thursday. Tempest Lodge K. of P. took charge of the remains, on arrival and nearly every member of the lodge was in attendance at the funeral service and accompanied the remains to their last resting place, in Tingley Cemetery. The funeral services were at the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. E. S. MENOHER, closing with the Knights of Pythias ritualistic service at the grave.

Edwin STEWART was on of twelve brothers all grown to manhood and all actively engaged either in business or professional life. A reunion was held here last winter which was adjourned to reconvene at the World’s Fair this summer. All the brothers were present at the funeral: J. T. O. and Burris H. of Kearney, Nebraska; W. B. and E. M., of Chicago; C. R. of Kansas City, accompanied by his wife; L. B., Thos. B. and Fred H. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and A. R. STEWART of Columbus, Ohio. Also J. R. STEWART and family of Diagonal and W. W. and family of this city. Also two cousins, I. R. and W. R. SHROYER, and their wives, of Mt. Ayr, and I. B. STEWART, of Shannon City, an uncle of the boys.

The STEWART brothers take a more than usual interest in each other’s welfare and are ever ready to render any needed assistance. At their own request they took the place of the pall bearers at the cemetery gate and carried the remains of their brother to the grave and consigned all that was mortal to its last resting place, because it was the last service they could render their deceased brother.

Very pretty flowers were contributed by the Carpenters union of Chicago and the K. of P. lodges of Chicago and Tingley, arranged to represent the emblems of the societies of which the deceased was a member.
