June 19, 1917 ~ September 06, 2016Velda Roberta Fenton, 99, passed away September 6, 2016 surrounded by loved ones. Velda, daughter of Clair and Ruby Cox Richey was born June 19, 1917 in Colorado on the family homestead.
She was united in marriage to Carl Fenton on December 24, 1940. To this union five children were born. She is survived by four daughters: Ellen (Ted) Luce of Las Vegas, Janet (Frank) Troyer of Elkhart IN, Patricia (Frank) Dodge of West Des Moines, Becky (Tom) Inman of Waukee, IA; her daughter-in-law Nancy Fenton of Urbandale, IA; ten grandchildren, Joel (Aileen) Fenton, Kelly (Scott) Coleman, Chris (Elaine) Luce, Patrick Luce, Travis (April) Troyer, Tyler Troyer, Tarrah (Jake) Hemming, Julie (Tom) Melton, Jeff Dodge, and Megan (Levi) Ferguson; and eleven great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Alexandra Fenton, Lindsay, Jackson, Abby Coleman, Hunter Hemming, Cole, Kennedy and Gage Melton, Addison and Evelyn Ferguson. Velda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; her son, Carl Edward Fenton; and her five siblings, Thelma, Audrey, Cleta, Doris and Duane.
Velda was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Her greatest interest was her family, but she also enjoyed genealogy, cancer support group, crafts, cooking, sewing, gardening, and her annual Christmas craft sale.
Services were held Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA. Burial was at the cemetery in Ellston, Iowa on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 10:30 a.m.
