OBITUARY ~ TWILLA RUTH (HALL) LININGER

Twilla Ruth Hall was born September 19, 1920 on a farm near Atkinson, Nebraska, to Leon and Lula (Fullerton) Hall. She passed away May 23, 2016 at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa.

The family, including older siblings Marvin and Vienna, moved to Tingley, Iowa when Twilla was three years old. Her twelve years in the Tingley public school left her with many fond memories of operettas, band concerts, declamatory contests, dedicated teachers, ballgames, and dear friends.

Following high school graduation, Twilla was too young to obtain a teacher’s certificate so she took a year of post-graduate work in high school and worked as a part-time employee in the telephone office. After a summer at Iowa State Teachers College in Iowa Falls, Iowa, she taught the Eighme Country School for two years. Her student body consisted of six active boys. In the fall of 1940, she enrolled at Tarkio College and received a teacher’s certificate in May 1942. The years of 1942-1944 were spent in Wichita, Kansas, where she worked as an inspector of airplanes at the Beech Aircraft Corporation.

Twilla married Keith Clarence Lininger in Phenix City, Alabama on October 22, 1944. They lived in Belton, Texas where Keith was an instructor at Camp Hood until the end of the war. They returned to Tingley in November 1945 and moved to the farm where they resided until moving to Clearview Home, Mount Ayr, Iowa, in September 2009.

A daughter, Quita Rae, was born June 16, 1946, and a son, Curtis Keith, joined the family July 25, 1951. Twilla and Keith were later blessed with four grandchildren, Kelle, Kenneth, Brandi, and Angie.

Twilla was a lifetime member of the Tingley United Presbyterian Church and United Presbyterian Women. She served as a substitute teacher in local schools and was a member of the Tingley unit of the American Legion Auxiliary. Twilla shared Keith’s interest in soil conservation and served as chairperson of the Ringgold County Soil and Water Conservation Art Contest for many years. Twilla was a member of the T Club, Chapter CK, P.E.O., Antiques Club, Doll Club, and enjoyed making scrap books and photo albums. Travel was a favorite pastime during retirement years.

Twilla is survived by her daughter Quita (David) Koehler of Winterset, Iowa and son Curtis (Terry) Lininger of Tingley, Iowa; grandchildren Kelle (Cory) Lehman, Brandi (Tory) Shay and Angie (Cassidy) Shay; 2 step-grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 6 step-great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; nephew Melvin (Doris) Richards; nieces Sue Richards, Linda Watkins, Janice Hall, Jean Hall, Joyce Hall, and June (Paul) Disdier.

She was preceded in death by her husband Keith in 2009; grandson Kenneth; parents; brother Marvin Hall and wife Grace; sister Vienna Richards; brother-in-law Donald Lininger and wife Dorothy; and nephew Jim Hall.

Services for Twilla Ruth Lininger were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, IA with Pastor Bill Armstrong officiating and Ginny Eighmy, Karen Pettinger and John Allen providing the music.

Honorary pallbearers were Melvin Richards, Doris Richards, Sue Richards, Linda Watkins, June Disdier, Paul Disdier, Janice Hall, Jean Hall and Joyce Hall.

Burial is in the Tingley Cemetery at Tingley, IA. A memorial fund has been established for HCI Care Services in Mount Ayr, IA.
