OBITUARY ~ DAVID LANDIS GIPSON
May 22, 1924 ~ July 17, 2016

David Landis Gipson was born May 22, 1924 in Cantril, IA to Orpha Bell (Landis) Gipson and Jesse Loss Gipson. He served in Panama during World War II in the U.S. Navy, completing his service as a Machinist Mate Second Class.

After leaving the service he met and married Anna Maye Hunter Gipson, his wife of 55 years. They served together as Worthy Matron and Patron in Eastern Star. Dave and Ann also enjoyed playing bingo. Anna Maye preceded him in death August 2002.

David rose to the position of Service Manager at various Chevrolet and GM dealerships becoming a long time member of the “Only the Best Club” Chevrolet Motor Division’s top 10 Service Managers in the country. A significant task considering David’s choice to work only in dealerships in smaller communities, better suited to raise his family. David would readily tell you that his biggest success was his family.

He is survived by three daughters - Linda (Jon) Heaslet, Charlotte, NC; Betty Brundage, Mount Ayr, IA; Gloria (Chris) von Fahnestock, Dayton, OH; one son - David (Brenda) Gipson, Yuba City, CA; 24 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one daughter - Kathy Aytes, Kathy’s husband, Ron, and two granddaughters, Christina and Saundra Aytes.

David had many varied interests over the years, including membership with the American Legions, the Masonic Lodge, Knights Templar, Eastern Star, and was associated with the Mount Ayr Sportsman club for many years. His hobbies included square dancing, fishing, hunting, bowling, explorer scout group leadership (several scouts went on to the work in the mechanical business).

Masonic rites were held 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 19 at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, led by Larry Riley with Faith Lodge #179, A.F. & A.M. in attendance and participating. Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 20 at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, led by Rev. Jon Heaslet. Casketbearers were David Landis Gipson II, Chip Brundage, Ron Aytes Heaslet, Sean-Peter Heaslet, Connar Bogan and Christopher Von Fahnestock. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Blockton, Iowa with military rites by Ringgold Post #172 and the Navy Honor Guard Unit.

Memorials are to Faith Lodge #179 A.F. & A.M. and Ringgold Post #172, American Legion, all in Mount Ayr.
