OBITUARY ~ LYNDEN LEROY FARIS
August 23, 1913 ~ April 23, 2001

Lynden Leroy Faris, who was born August 23, 1913 in Ringgold county, Iowa, passed away April 23, 2001 in Santa Rosa, California. He died peacefully at home in the company of his loving family, following a lengthy battle with the effects of a stroke and other illnesses.

Lynden grew up and went to school in Mount Ayr, Iowa and attended Iowa State University. During the 1930s he worked as a surveyor and later an engineer for the county engineer of Ringgold county. He also worked for the Iowa Highway Commission.

In 1938, Lynden married Gladys Elizabeth Wickett of New Virginia, Iowa at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and upon discharge he resumed his engineering career, working in numerous positions throughout southern Iowa and at Iowa State University.

In 1957, Lynden moved with his family to southern California and continued work for city government and private engineering companies. He retired in 1975 from the City of Pomona, California after spending more than 40 years in the engineering profession.

Lynden and Gladys have lived in the Oakmont Retirement Community in Santa Rosa since 1986. They have enjoyed traveling over the years and have visited all 50 states as well as other countries. Last spring Lynden attended the Mount Ayr high school reunion, class of 1931, and was recognized as the eldest graduate in attendance.

Lynden is survived by his loving wife of 62 years; sister Roberta Harris of Lancaster, California; daughter Karla Moberly and her husband Bill of Santa Rosa; son Robert Faris of Santa Barbara, California; son Richard Faris and his wife Judi of Menlo Park, California; two grandchildren, Laurie Williams and her husband Danny of Davis, California and Bryan Moberly and his wife MaryAnn of Santa Rosa; three great-grandchildren, Megan, Mitchell and Bryson; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services Thursday, May 3, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. at the Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr. Interment will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr following the ceremony.

Remembrances may be made to the American Legion, Post 172, Mount Ayr, or your favorite charity.
