Ella Mae Baker, daughter of Edward Russell Baker and Lena (Jackson) Baker, was born in Sully County, South Dakota, on May 23, 1917 and left her earthly life on November 14, 2000 at the age of 83 years at the Lenox Care Center in Lenox, Iowa.Ella Mae graduated from Clearfield High School and in 1943 graduated from St. Paul Bible School. She spent 24 years as a missionary to the North American Indians in Minnesota and Wisconsin, nine years of this time as a teacher in the Mokahum Indian Bible School in Cass Lake, Minnesota. She was Dean of Women at the Bible School
when she sought a warmer climate for health reasons.In 1968 Ella Mae moved to McAllen, Texas where she was the activity director at the Alliance Nursing Home for eight years and later a worker in the Christian school office at the Rio Grande Children Home for five years.
After retirement in 1982 she moved to the Alliance Retirement Center in Deland, Florida. On August 12,1999 she and her sister Edna White moved from Florida to the Lenox Care Center.
She is survived by her two sisters Edna White of the Lenox Care Center, Rhoda Johnston of Diagonal, one brother Joyce Baker if Dauphin Island, Ala., and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were sisters Edith Plybon of Red Bluff, Cal. and Veva Jean Goocher of Dauphin Island, Ala., and brother Glenn Baker of Shreveport, La.
Services for Ella Mae were held Thursday, Nov. 16 at the Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Clearfield. Services were conducted by Pastor Kendle Nichols. Burial was in the Clearfield
Cemetery in Clearfield.Casket Bearers were, Edward Johnston, Scott Johnston, Curt Johnston, Trent Johnston, Jerry Huffine, Todd Huffine and Lance Huffine.
