April of 2000OBITUARY ~ BENJAMIN HILL
Benjamin HILL was born on November 8, 1920 at home on the family farm southeast of Allendale, MO to Reas and Grace (SAVACOOL) HILL, and passed away on May 7, 1996 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 75 years.
Ben spent his entire childhood in the same area and received his education in the one room Dry School. He enlisted in the Army in January of 1942 and served his country during World War II as a rifleman in Infantry Co. F309. Ben saw action in North Africa and as part of the occumpation troops in Italy, France and Germany.
On August 17, 1946 he was united in marriage to Lois WYER at Troy, Kansas and to this union, three children were born: Peggy Jean FANCOLLY of Overland Park, Kansas, Paul Eugene HILL of Langdon, MO and Billy Lee, who died at birth.
Ben lived in the Maloy/Redding, Iowa area for 43 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening, and was well-known for his watermelons. Ben was employed for many years by the Ringgold County Road Department.
He ws preceded in death by his mother, father and son, Billy Lee.
He is survived by his wife Lois; daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Ken FANCOLLY; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Norese HILL; four sisters, Edna MAGNUSON of Villisca, Iowa, LaCasta LINDSAY of Clarinda, Iowa, Dorthea NORRIS of Walnut Creek, California, and Letha WALL of Bedford, Iowa; four grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ben will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services were held at Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa on May 11, 1996. Officiating was Rev. Edie STEPHENS. Casketbearers were Jim WYER, Carol PICKERING, Randy WYER, Levi MILLER, Jim DUNFEE, and Jack WILCOX.
Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr, Iowa.
