OBITUARY - MARVIN DUANE "RED" COMBS

Marvin Duane "Red" COMBS, resident of Lee's Summit, Missouri, died Wednesday, Dec 8, 2010, at Hospice House.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 22, at 10am followed by the memorial service at 11am at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee's Summit. Red was born in Denver Missouri, August 22, 1922, to Wilma A. (Tim) COMBS and Blanche SEGO COMBS. He was one of 10 children. His family worked on farms during the depression. In his young life he moved from Denver, Missouri to Maloy, Iowa, and eventually to Hatfield, Missouri, in 1939.

After high school in October of 1942 he enlisted in the US Navy. He served on the USS Bunker Hill until the end of WWII. When he came home from leave in December of 1944, he married his high school sweetheart, Clella Mae HALEY.

After the war, Clella and he moved to Sheridan, Missouri. She taught at the local school and he had a job as a custodian. In 1952, Red and Clella moved to Lee's Summit. She was hired to teach in the R-7 School District. In 1953, Red graduated from Toledo, Ohio School of Meat Cutting. He worked at Poo's Locker until he started his career in 1957 at A & P meat market in Waldo. He moved to the Lee's Summit store in 1962 where he became the head of the meat department. He retired from A & P in 1980, and took up a new occupation as daycare provider for his grandsons.

Red and Clella became involved in the antique business 1982- 1992. They enjoyed hours of antiquing, restoring furniture, collecting, selling and making new friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Clella, brothers; Melvin Blaine, Lester Earl, Calvin Andrew.

He is survived by his daughter Roby LITTLE and husband Dan of Lee's Summit, daughter Bobbe of Lee's Summit, grandson, Blake LITTLE and wife Kristin, great-grand-daughter Scarlett of Lee's Summit, grandson Taylor LITTLE and wife Claire of Fort Collins, Colorado, three sisters; Cleda (Delbert) PALMER, Rosie (Beryl) ARKLE, and Shirley (Larry) DeLANA and sister-in-law Lola (Leland) HALEY and many nieces and nephews.
