OBITUARY - DONALD V. NOBLE

Donald Van NOBLE, son of Van J. and Levice (SMITH) NOBLE, was born March 27, 1906 on a farm near Caledonia, Iowa, and departed this life March 9, 1992, in the Mercy Hospital at Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 19 days.

He began his elementary education in a rural school in Barnes County, North Dakota, and finished through the 8th grade in the Caledonia and Red Brush schools.

He grew to manhood in the vicinity of Caledonia and spent his entire life here with the exception of three years in North Dakota and six years in the United States Army; one year at Camp Grant in Illinois for basic training and five years at Fresno, California in the military hospital. After his military service he returned to the home farm near Caledonia and farmed there until his death.

Don received Jesus Christ as his Saviour under the preaching of the Evangelist, Merve ROZELL, at a camp crusade at the fairgrounds in Des Moines, and was baptized with a group of others from the Caledonia church in Grand River, thus leaving his membership in the Caledonia Methodist Church.

Don loved farming and the rural life, finding his greatest pleasure in working with his neighbors and caring for his livestock. Being a very selfless person, he worked and planned toward the well-being of others he loved.

Those preceding him in death were his parents; three sisters, Patience, Leah and Marjorie, and one brother, Keith.

Those left to mourn his passing are his brother, Norman; six nephews and one niece; Rollin and wife Joan, of Branson, Missouri, Gary and wife Velda of Lamoni, Iowa, Gerald and wife Glenda of Chillicothe, Missouri, Derald and wife Beverly of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Neil and Don LAMB and Dauphine PHARRIS of Washington State; many cousins and great-nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Don was a kind and loving person and a person of easy acquaintance who cherished faithful friends. He leaves a vacancy in our midst and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services were held March 12, 1992, from the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, conducted by rev. Jerry AVISE-ROUSE. Music was provided by Mrs. Keith SACKETT and Mrs. Francis WILLIS.

Casketbearers were Rollin NOBLE, Gerald NOBLE, Barton SHIELDS, Derald NOBLE, David NOBLE and Gary NOBLE. Honorary pallbearers were Kyle SHAHA, Victor SHIELDS, Charles SHIELDS, Jr. and Harold STEPHENS. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa.
