July 31, 1924OBITUARY - DAVID PORTER WHITTAKER
The body of Port WHITTAKER was brought here for burial last Monday from Loveland, Colo. where for the last few months he had been making his home with his sister, Mrs. W. A. BOOTON.
David Porter WHITTAKER was born in [Wayne County] Ohio, June 23, 1845. While a small child he moved with his parents to Illinois and in 1868 the family came to Iowa , settling in Page county on the farm now owned by R. A. CABEEN. In the early 1870's he was married to Miss Jennie McMAHON, who died about thirty years ago. They lived in Ringgold County, Iowa during the 1880's. About 1896 he left this vicinity, going first to South Dakota and after leaving there has spent the greater part of the time with his nephews near Blue Springs, Nebr. He spent a couple of summers with his brother, Lee, in Wilcox Saskatchewan, Canada. Since May of this year he has been in Loveland, Colo. While not robust, he had been in fairly good health until about two weeks ago, when he was taken to a hospital in Loveland, where he died on Thursday, July 24.
Funeral services were held at Loveland Friday afternoon, and the body was shipped here for burial, interment delayed until the arrival of his brother, Lee, from Madison, Saskatchewan, Canada. Short services were held at the cemetery Tuesday morning conducted by Rev. W. E. HARDAWAY.
His brother Lee, of Madison Saskatchewan, Canada was the only one of the three surviving members of his family present, his sister, Mrs. W. A. BOOTON, of Loveland, Colo., being unable to attend, and the only other brother, George, of Santa Monica Calif. being too far away. Mrs. Rhodus HANNAH of Blanchard is a niece.
