1903OBITUARY - ROBERT JACKSON LAWHEAD
Robert Jackson LAWHEAD was born in Logan County, Ohio, June 23, 1830, the son of William and Martha (JACKSON) LAUGHEAD of Greene County, Ohio, and the grandson of David and Elizabeth (MITCHELL) LAUGHEAD and Robert and Elizabeth (McCORKLE) JACKSON. He married on September 30, 1851 to his childhood sweetheart, Margaretta Jane, the daughter of David and Isabel ELDER.
They were active in the United Presbyterian Church and the Republican Party.
Robert and Margaretta moved to Warren County, Illinois, where they began their family. Their first-born son died as an infant and Margaretta gave birth to ten more: David, William, Cassius, James, Charles, Nettie, Robert, Lawrence, Lois, and Maggie. During their time in Illinois, the family changed their name to LAWHEAD.
Robert served in Company C, 83rd Division, Illinois Regiment Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. He became an elder in his church.
In 1880, the family moved to Mount Ayr, Iowa, and in 1891 to Welda, Kansas.
Mr. LAWHEAD died on October 7, 1903, Welda in Anderson County, Kansas. He was interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa.
