OBITUARY - DOROTHY AYERS GERINGER

Dorothy AYERS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. [Delilah (SHELLENBARGER)] David AYERS, was born June 14, 1840, in Knox County, Ohio, and died at her home in Riley Township, August 13, 1914, aged 74 years, 1 month and 29 days. She was united in marriage to John L. (sic) GERINGER, March 5, 1854. To this union were born eleven children, two of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her aged husband and nine children: A. W. GERINGER, Jerome; H. D. GERINGER, Axtel, Montana; E. A. GERINGER, Gettysburg, South Dakota; Mrs. J. H. NEWMAN, Leon; Byron GERINGER, Mt. Ayr; Mrs. Anna BILLINGTON, Willow Lakes, South Dakota; A. A. GERINGER, G. C. GERINGER and W. A. GERINGER, who are still at home. Twenty-five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Ella GOGLEMAN, of Kirksville, Missouri, besides a host of other relatives and friends are left to mourn her loss.

At the age of 13 she was converted and united with the Christian Church and remained a faithful and consistent member until the time of her death. She was a faithful wife, a kind and loving mother and her first thoughts were of ministering to her family and those around her, being ever ready to help bear the burdens of others. She was very patient during her last illness which lasted about five weeks and all that loving hands could do for her was of no avail and she succumbed to disease and passed away from this world to await the summons of the resurrection morning.

Funeral services were held from the Mt. Zion Church Friday afternoon and interment was made in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. GERINGER were pioneer residents, having settled in Ringgold County in April, 1861.

NOTE:
David AYERS was born 03 May 1812, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and died 22 Aug 1903, Wauseon, Fulton County, Ohio, at the age of 91 years. David married in 1839, Henry County, Ohio, to Delilah SHELLENBARGER who was born 19 Dec 1819, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and died at the age of 78 years on 16 Feb 1898, Maloy, Ringgold County, Iowa.

John Jacob GERINGER was born 23 Jan 1828, Holmes County, Ohio, the youngest of five children born to John J. GERINGER (13 Aug 1777, MD - 09 May 1861, OH) and Elizabeth (BOWERSMITH) GERINGER (1783, MD - 09 Oct 1854, OH). John J. and Elizabeth (BOWERSMITH) GERINER were interred at Ayers Cemetery in Fulton County, Ohio. John Jacob GERINGER, a farmer, died at the age of 88 on 13 Jul 1916, Ringgold County, Iowa. John Jacob and Dorothy (AYERS) GERINGER were the parents of eleven children:
