OBITUARY - JAMES PATRICK HALEY

1949 - 2007

James Patrick HALEY was born on January 9, 1949, as Seamus Cooney at Sean Ross Abbey in Roscrae, Ireland, County Tipperary. At three years of age he was adopted out of the orphanage to a family in St. Louis, Mo. Jim and Margaret HALEY made a home for James in St. Louis until the elder James died when James Patrick was six years of age.

Margaret, James and his sister Kathleen then moved to Kansas City, Mo. In 1963, the family moved to Shenandoah where James attended school and graduated from Shenandoah High School. James enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Fort Ord and then in Germany. After attending jump school, he was sent to Vietnam. He served four years and attained a rank of Specialist 4. James earned the National Defense Service Award, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Expert Rifle Medal.

James was preceded in death by his father, James and his mother, Margaret. He is survived by his sister, Kathleen TAYLOR and her husband, Rolfe of Knoxville and their daughters Kelly TAYLOR, a student at the University of Northern Iowa and Erin TAYLOR, a student at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. James is also survived by his uncle and aunt, Gary and Mem LAUGHLIN of Shenandoah.

Graveside services were held on September 1, 2006, at the Maloy Cemetery in Maloy where James will rest beside his mother, Margaret.
