OBITUARY - LILLIE LUCILLE (LUCAS) WILLEY

Lillie Lucille (LUCAS) WILLEY, the youngest of five daughters of Sam and Lillie LUCAS, was born April 16, 1911, and passed away January 1, 1995, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. She died at the age of 83.

Lucille was born in Ringgold County and made Mount Ayr her home for all of her life, except for wintering in Winterhaven, California after retirement.

After graduating from Mount Ayr High School with the Class of 1930, she taught in a one-room country school. On Nov. 26, 1931, Lucille married Clair Orr WILLEY and to this marriage were born four children: Clair Leroy, Evangeline Kay, Ronald Eugene and Judith Ann.

Lucille and Clair owned and operated Willey’s Plumbing and Heating most of their married life until their retirement. Lucille was a member and officer of the BPW, Ringgold Ramblers camping club and Royal Neighbors. She has been a member of the First Christian Church of Mount Ayr for over 50 years.

Among her interests were crocheting, for which she won many ribbons and awards, gardening, cooking, canning, fishing, entertaining family and friends, and feeding her birds and squirrels. Nothing gave her greater satisfaction than having her family gather around her kitchen table for any meal.

Lucille was a loving mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her children: Leroy of Marion, Iowa; Kay and husband John SWALLOW of Des Moines, Iowa; and Ron and wife Nancy of Mount Ayr; one sister, Ruth BRAMON of Nampa, Idaho; sisters-in-law: Maxine KIMBLE, Lola and Gerald HAILEY; Pauline McCUTCHAN; Elma and Hallie MOORE; brother-in-law, Gerold and Jean WILLEY; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband of 59 years Clair; and infant daughter, Judith; three sisters and a son-in-law.

A Lucille WILLEY Memorial Scholarship has been established to help further the education of deserving students.

Funeral services were held January 4, 1995, from the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Merlin WILKINS. Music was provided by Ginny EIGHMY, Gary WURSTER and John ALLEN.

Casket bearers were Gerald SUMMA, Laverene WORTHING, Gerold WILLEY, Randy McDONNELL, Bob ERICKSON and Donald STEPHENS. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa.
