OBITUARY - MRS. JOHN WESTERN.

Lina Jane MASON, daughter of Amos and Jincy MASON, was born in McClean (sic) county, Illinois, December 4, 1854, and departed this life near Beaconsfield, Iowa, December 27, 1927.

The deceased moved with her parents to Lucas county, Iowa, in 1857. While yet a small girl her father died in the Civil War [serving as a Private with Company E of the 34th Iowa Infantry], leaving the mother with a large family to endure the hardhsips and privations of pioneer days. Nevertheless, Lina, as she grew to young womanhood, fitted herself for teaching and successfully taught seventeen terms in the public schools.

Miss MASON was married, March 13, 1881, to John A. WESTERN, and moved to Harrison county, Missouri

Ten years later she moved to Ringgold county, Iowa, northwest of Beaconsfield, where she has resided ever since.

In early life she was converted and joined the United Brethren church. Later she transferred her membership to the Methodist church, through which she gave as much in service as her health would permit.

Besides her husband, the departed leaves one son, Clarence A. WESTERN, who resides at Lake Benton, Minnesota; a foster daughter, Mrs. Ed LONG, of Beaconsfield. These were both at her bedside when the end came.

She also leaves to mourn three brothers, Harmon G. MASON, of Humbolt, Iowa; Chas. E. MASON, of Chariton, Iowa; Perry MASON, Lacona, Iowa; two sisters, Miss. Laura E. MASON, and Miss Mary I. MASON, both of Chariton, Iowa.

Also seven grandchildren: Wondell, Ralph, and Jeanette WESTERN; Reta, Delma, Edwin, and Nolan LONG; besides a host of friends.

Lake the Master she served, she was always quiet, gentle, patient and loving. Although she suffered much with a disease racked body, she never complained, always forgetting herself for the welfare of others.

The end came quiet, peaceful and without a struggle at the age of 73 years, and 23 days.

The funeral was from the Methodist church at Beaconsfield, and was in charge of the pastor, Rev. SOELBERG. Burial was at athe cemetery at Afton, [Union County], Iowa [Greenlawn Cemetery].

NOTE: John A. WESTERN, husband of Lina J. (MASON), was born in 1857, and died in 1939 with interment at Greenlawn Cemetery, Afton, Iowa.
