LEE STANLEY WEEHLER
Lee Stanley WEEHLER, 89 years old, was born May 19, 1918 to Frank and Nora (QUARTZ) WEEHLER in the family farm home near Loup City, Nebraska. He passed away at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr on May 17, 2008.
On November 24, 1940, Lee was united in marriage to Norma BICKEL at Marysville, Kansas. To this union five children were born; Richard Lee, twins Robert Dean and Janet Kay, and twins Debra Kay and Diane Rae.
Lee graduated from Litchfield, Nebraska High School in 1938 where he participated in basketball and football, the latter of which he was elected the team captain. After graduation, he was employed by the Jesse Bread Company for two years. In late 1940, he and Norma moved to Iowa where they farmed in the Benton area for over sixty-six years. Lee thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of farming, but especially enjoyed working with animals. He was an avid gardener and skilled woodworker. It was said that he could make something out of nothing. The last few years he spent many hours crafting over fifty canes for family and friends. He was a baptized member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Ayr and served on the Ringgold County FHA board for many years.
Lee is survived by Norma, his wife of 67 years; sons Richard (wife Joyce) and Robert (wife Kimberly); and daughters Debra and Diane; grandchildren Becky HEILMAN, Randy WEEHLER, Neil WEEHLER, Danyale BOARDMAN, Sommer JONES, Colton WEEHLER, and Drew WEEHLER-SMITH and 11 great-grandchildren; a sister Doris POTEET of Council Bluffs, IA and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Janet; brothers Charles, Raymond, and a brother in infancy.
Services were held Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. from United Baptist Presbyterian Church of Mount Ayr, Iowa.
