OBITUARY - EVA "CAROL" (LAMOREAUX) WEEDA

Eva Carol WEEDA of Mt. Ayr, Iowa passed away October 11, 2008 at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Carol, eldest daughter of Alvin and Mavia LAMOREAUX, was born September 13, 1924 in Sterling, Colorado. The family moved to Mount Ayr, Iowa when Carol was 18 months old and was soon joined by Carol’s sister, Faith. Carol attended country school for one year and completed her schooling in Mount Ayr, graduating in 1942. She participated in a summer music school at Morningside College for which she received a voice scholarship. Carol also attended one year at Iowa State Teacher’s College as a voice major. She was honored to receive a perfect score on the Iowa State Teacher’s Exam. Carol taught rural school, K-8, for seven years, married and taught one more year. On February 12th, 1949 she was united in marriage to Doyle Lawrence WEEDA by her father, Reverend Alvin LAMOREAUX. They resided on a farm four miles south of Tingley where they raised their six children. Carol felt she had a lot to learn as a farm wife, but acquired the skills of cooking, gardening, canning, and creating a peaceful, happy home for her family.

Upon Doyle’s death in 1972, Carol began working in the Matura Headstart program while managing the family and the family farm. She started in Headstart as a teacher’s aide, advanced to head teacher and later became Education Coordinator for Mt. Ayr, Bedford and Corning, while pursuing and attaining her Associate of Arts degree. Carol worked in the Headstart program for 16 years.

In 1983, Carol moved from the farm to her home in Mount Ayr. She was encouraged to run for County Recorder and much to her surprise won the election and was re-elected two more terms for a total of twelve years.

Carol’s deepest values were loyalty and love for God and trying to live by Bible precepts as a follower of Jesus Christ. She believed family was most important of earthly things – also love of friends. Carol spent countless throughout the years involved in church activities.

Carol’s parents nurtured her gift of music which she shared with her sister Faith. They performed together for many years, including singing on KFNF radio in Shennandoah. Music and singing were a lifelong interest. Other interests and hobbies over the years included attending sheep shows with Doyle, painting, tending her garden and flowers, needlework, making intricate handmade cards to give to family and friends and making family scrapbooks. Doyle took Carol to the Iowa State Fair for their first date, and camping at the fair was a much anticipated event from the time she was newly married through helping and watching Doyle, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in various sheep shows and numerous other fair events.

Another love was family gatherings; she enjoyed all the holidays with her family, Christmas being extra special.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sister Faith SHINKLE of Mount Ayr, sister-in-law Naomi WILSON of Des Moines, children, Patty STEVENS and husband Clayton of Winterset, David WEEDA and wife Melinda of Mount Ayr, Danny WEEDA and wife Carol Ann of Mount Ayr, Linda SWANSON and husband Rolf of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Tim WEEDA and wife Donna of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband Doyle, her parents, brother-in-law Willis SHINKLE, daughter Diane SORENSEN, son-in-law Kenneth SORENSEN and granddaughter Klaire WEEDA.
