A TRIBUTE of RESPECT.

Mrs. Catherine Matilda WALLACE wife of J. D. WALLACE, of Benton township, died from rheumatic fever, on December 16, 1889, aged 35 years. Her maiden name was ANDERSON, the daughter of Dr. Wm. ANDERSON, of Kimbolton, Ohio. She was born and brought up in Guernsey county of that state. She came with her husband to Ringgold county, Iowa in February, 1882. She was a devoted consistent christian woman and remarkable for two things, viz, a model wife and a model self-sacrificing mother. She was indeed a model helpmeet for her husband and gave him joy, comfort and encouragement all the days of their married life. She performed the duties of life with a contended and cheerful spirit and bore the burdens of life with patient fortitude, such as put true honor on the words wife and woman. She was also a model mother and devoted herself unselfishly to the training of her children. Her patience, kindness and gentleness toward the fretfulness and waywardness of childhood and youth, was indeed the best religion. Her life was a reflection of the best motherhood.

"A mother is a mother still, the holiest thing alive." She who rocks the cradle rules the world and Mrs. WALLACE has rocked the cradle for seven children and leaves the eighth a tender babe in her husband's arms.

Her funeral took place from the home Dec. 17th and was conducted by her pastor, Rev. G. T. SCOTT. All the community and many from a distance followed her remains to the graveyard not far away [Benton Cemetery]. We knew Mrs. WALLACE well, their home having been for years a little Bethany to us, and we knew her only to appreciate her womanhood and we feel assured that a noble christian wife and mother has been laid to rest. Her husband and friends mourn as those who hope, as they gaze on her retiring form.
