OBITUARY.
Died, Thursday, January 7th 1892, at the home of his son, J. F. WALL in Mt. Ayr, Iowa, Mr. Abraham WALL, aged 83 years, 9 months and 6 days. Mr. WALL was born April 1st 1809, in Gloucestershire, England, where he spent his youth and learned his trade, that of a weaver and wool manufacturer. At twenty seven years of age, in the year 1837, he came to America and settled in Columbiana county, Ohio, but afterwards lived in Beaver county, Pennsylvania. He came to Ottumwa, Wapello county, Iowa, in 1850. He spent many years in Marion county. His first wife died many years ago in Pennsylvania, the second one, in Mt. Ayr in 1888. He had eleven children, six sons and five daughters. The oldest son died on the Ocean passage. Eight children are still living, six sons and two daughters.
Mr. WALL first united with the Baptist church, but after a while transferred his membership to the M. E. church and remained in that communion until death. He was remarkable for his hatred of wrong, and his love of right, and often expressed his abhorrence of evils with a marked vehemence, common to the fathers.
NOTE: Abraham's second wife was Rebecca N. OWENS (1817-1889). Abraham and Rebecca were interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa.
John WALL, son of Abraham and Rebecca, was born on October 15, 1843, and died on March 24, 1924 with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery.Transcription and note by Sharon R. Becker, 2008
