OBITUARY - OPAL M. (MULL) ANDERSON

GOWRIE, IA -- Opal M. ANDERSON, 95, died Thursday, February 14, 2008, at the Gowrie Care Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Gowrie, with Pastor Jim DAVIS officiating. Burial will be in the Gowrie Township Cemetery. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Gowrie. Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie, is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include sons, Ron ANDERSON and his wife, Arlys of Lakewood, CO, and Gary (Luke) ANDERSON and his wife, Alice of Cedar Rapids; grandson, Chris ANDERSON of New York, NY and granddaughter-in-law, Barbara ANDERSON of Lakewood, CO; great-granddaughter, Hannah ANDERSON of Lakewood, CO; sisters, Lela PETERSON of Scranton and Gladys LAMBERT and her husband Clarence of Fort Dodge; and brother, Everett MULL and his wife, Delores of Jefferson.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Walter and May (WAGGONER) MULL; husband, Lester (Leck) ANDERSON; grandson, Mark ANDERSON; brothers, Harold MULL, Homer MULL, and Arlo MULL; and sister, Neva MATTICKS.

Opal M. MULL was born on March 30, 1912 at Caledonia, IA. She attended schools in southern Iowa. Opal married Lester (Leck) ANDERSON in the Zion Lutheran Church parsonage in Gowrie on July 18, 1934. They farmed in the Gowrie area and also managed the Canteen Cafe and Anderson Recreation and Lunch Room. They moved to Des Moines where Opal was employed at the Younkers Store for Homes and later as a seamstress in their French Room doing fine needlework. They retired to Gowrie in 1977. Opal enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing, always looking to help others. She crocheted caps for newborn babies at St. Luke Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Upon returning to Gowrie, she enjoyed renewing friendships and appreciated the care at the Senior Suites and Gowrie Care Center. Opal was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and Women of the ELCA.

Memorials may be left to the Zion Lutheran Church, Gowrie Care Center and Stewart Memorial Community Hospital Hospice of Lake City.
