A SAD DEATH

Clyde RUSH Dies From the Effects of a Blow Received While Playing

Clyde RUSH, 11 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Al RUSH of Diagonal, died at the home last Friday at 4 o'clock p.m. from the effects of a blow received during a good natured imitation of the CORBETT-FITZSIMMONS mill. The death is a very sad one and has cast a gloom over the whole community.

The particulars as near as we can learn are as follows: On Wednesday, March 31st, he and another boy two years his senior were good-naturedly engaged in a tistic encounter, imitating the CORBETT-FITZSIMMONS fight. It is stated that during the fight Clyde was struck in the stomach, but the statement is denied by some. At any rate he received a blow which stopped the fight, but produced no serious effect until Friday, April 2nd. That day he took sick and gradually grew worse until nothing could be done to save him. Inflammation of the stomach set in and caused his death on last Friday.

Another evidence of the demoralizing effects of prize fighting. That relic of barbarism should be driven off the face of the earth before another victim is added to its already large list.

NOTE: Clyde RUSH was born in 1885, and died April 2, 1897 at Diagonal with interment at Diagonal Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa.
