OBITUARY.

Died, March 24, 1888, Mrs. Katie ROMKIE (sic), of inflammation of the bowels, aged 37 years, 10 months and 20 days. Mrs. ROMKIE was born May 4, 1850, at Ft. Madison, Lee county, Iowa. She married Mr. ROMKIE, February 19, 1870, and died March 24, 1888.

She leaves a husband and six children to mourn her loss, besides one who preceeded her some years ago to her home. Mrs. ROMKIE was loved and respected by all who knew her. Service was conducted by the writer at the M. E. church, Monday, March 26, and then we laid her away in the new cemetery near Tingley. Quite a large concourse of people attended the funeral. --G.E. NOTE: Catha "Katie" GERLOFF was the daughter of Christian GERLOFF (1819-1896) and Deana (SANVOSS) GERLOFF (1827-1900). She married William Ernst ROMKEE on December 19, 1870, Ringgold County, Iowa. William, the son of Heinrich F. ROEMBKE (1813-?) and Christine W. (KLEINSCHMIDT) ROEMBKE (1818-?), was born in Windheim, Prussia on December 22, 1845. He died at age 63 on October 23, 1909, Idalia, Colorado.

Christian GERLOFF was born on January 29, 1819, Hanover, Niedersachsen, Germany. He departed from Bremen, Germany and arrived in Philadelphia on May 23, 1843. Christian married Deana SANDVOSS in December of 1846. The couple resided at Green Bay, Lee County, Iowa, before moving to Tingley, Ringgold County, Iowa. Christian died at Tingley on March 31, 1896, at the age of 77 years. Deana (SANDVOSS) GERLOFF was born May 7, 1827, Burnswick, Neidersachsen, Germany, and died at age 72 on March 3, 1900, Tingley, Ringgold County, Iowa. Christian and Deana were the parents of three children:

Henry GERLOFF (1848-1915)
Cahta "Katie" (GERLOFF) ROMKEE (1851-1888)
Charles GERLOFF (1853-1918).
