The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1923

OBITUARY.

John Dunlap ROBINSON, son of Joseph and Sarah ROBINSON, was born September 10, 1868, on the ROBINSON homestead in Ringgold county, Iowa. He finished his earthly career and went home to be with the Lord August 5, 1923. His last illness which dated from July 19th, was serious from the beginning. In spite of every attention shown by devoted relatives and friends and the ministrations of faithful physicians and nurses the disease refused to be stayed. When his weakened body could resist no longer he fell asleep.

When he was but a lad, some thirteen or fourteen years of age he made a profession of faith and united with the Mount Ayr Baptist church. Throughout the succeeding years he was a faithful, devoted member of that body. With him the living of a christian life was an everyday affair. So close to his heart were the interests of his church that he often spoke of it during his last illness.

On December 23, 1908, he and Miss Ollie SAMS were united in the sacred bond of matrimony. The wedding took place at the old home of the bride and immediately after they moved to their new home east of Mount Ayr, where they resided until the day of his death. To them were born two children, Ruth and Joseph, both of whom survive him.

The whole of his life from birth to death was spent in Ringgold county. He was looked upon as one of the county's most worthy and substantial citizens. As a business man he was upright and honest; as a citizen he was all that could be desired.

In addition to his wife and two children of his immediate family there remain two brothers and three sisters: Messrs. Hiram and Charles ROBINSON, Misses Minnie and Margaret and Mrs. J. O. HORNE, all of Ringgold county. These, together with innumerable friends and other relatives mourn his passing as that of a good, true, noble man and christian.

"Servant of God, well done!
Thy glorious warfare's past,
Thy battle's fought, the race is won,
And thou art crowned at last."
"Let faith exalt her joyful voice,
And now in triumph sing;
O Grave, where is thy victory,
And where, O Death, thy sting."

The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Baptist church in this city, being conducted by the pastor, Rev. R. W. SETTLE assisted by Rev. Jesse V. WRIGHT of Sheffield, Iowa. It was one of the largest funerals ever held in the community, friends coming from all parts of the county to pay their last tribute of respect to one whose life commanded the admiration and respect of all. The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful. The interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.

CARD OF THANKS.

We take this means of expressing to the neighbors and friends our sincere thanks for their kindness during the illness and on the occasion of the death and funeral of our husband and father. For the sympathy and help so freely bestowed we are profoundly grateful.

Mrs. John D. ROBINSON and children.
