OBITUARY - JOHN W. DAVIS

Died, November 18th, 1887, John W. DAVIS, son of M. V. and S. J. DAVIS. The deceased was born in Jasper county, Iowa, December 13th, 1867. At the age of four years he removed with his parents to Ringgold county, Iowa, where he has since resided. All through his life he was truthful and tried to live an upright and sober life. He abstained from the evils of intemperance, and was of a kind and affectionate nature. His life was a nobel type of manhood, one to be respected by us all. While on earth he was contented and happy, and when called to go to his eternal home through his last sickness, he was willing to go. He told his mother he was not going to get well, when he was first taken sick, and just before he died he told them that he was going to a better land, a land of rest, and when called to go he went on his way rejoicing . His last words were uttered in prayer. He seemed to have the sentiment of the Apostle, that to depart and be with Christ was far better than the joys of earth. -- KITTIE JAGGER.
