Elizabeth Cynthia BELKNAP was born in Licking county, Ohio, October 22, 1840, and died at her home in Mount Ayr Friday morning, March 13, 1931, at the age of 90 years, four months and 21 days.

She moved with her parents to Bureau county, Illinois, in the year 1854. On December 25, 1864, she was united in marriage to Peter T. CLATON and to this union six children were born. They moved to Ringgold county the first of March, 1874, and lived in Liberty township until March, 1915, when they moved to Mount Ayr.

She was converted and joined the Methodist church when a girl and always was a devoted member. She attended regularly until prevented by infirmities incident to old age.

She was preceded in death by her husband [in 1924]. Those remaining to mourn her death are the three daughters, Alvira E.
