OBITUARY - HARVEY A. CAVINESS

Died, at his residence in Rice township, October 12, 1893, of [illegible] inflamation, or from a large swelling or abcess in his right side, Harvey A. CAVINESS, aged 39 years. He was rather a stout young man and it is thought the swelling was caused by his being thrown from a horse and by heaving lifting and exposure. The funeral was held at his house, Oct. 14th, 1893, at which were a large number of sympathizing friends and relatives. The sermon was preached by Elder C. F. STEVENS of Knoxville, Iowa. The deceased was born in Jefferson county, Iowa, and in company with his brother, Wm. CAVINESS and H. H. LONG, his brother-in-law, came to Ringgold county in the spring of 1882. He had lost a small amount of means at that time but by hard labor and good management he became the owner of 200 acres of land. Harvey was much esteemed by all who knew him, winning to himself many friends by his genial good nature and sociability. He had been a member of the Seventh-day Advantists for about 8 years, and we believe he rests in hope of eternal life at the resurrection of the just.

The relatives that were present from abroad were: His brother David and two daughters, his brother John and wife of Adair county; Simeon CAVINESS and wife and Daniel CAVINESS of Jefferson county; and his sister Mrs. A. J. SMITH and husband of Bedford.

He has been twice married. His first wife died in the spring of 1883. They had two sons who are now living. He leaves a dear companion and three little children, two sons and on daughter. The interment occurred from the Rose Hill cemetery in Mt. Ayr.
