OBITUARY - THOMAS CARTER

Thos. CARTER died at the residence of his son, J. D. CARTER, in Benton township, on last Sunday the 6th of July, 1879, of paralysis, aged 76 years. He was a native of Virginia, but removed to Ross county, Ohio in an early day. He afterward removed to Jefferson county, Kansas, where he lived for 24 years. He came to this county about a year ago on a visit, but ill health prevented him from returning. His ill health terminated last Saturday in his death. He had been a member of the M. E. (the rest of the clipping is missing)

NOTE: Thomas' gravestone states his birth date was March 12, 1893 and his death date was on November 12, 1897, which is different than what was stated in the obituary. Thomas was married to Harriet DAVIS on November 12th of 1821. They were the parents of 13 children; Henry, John Davis, Polly Jane, James M., Katherine C., Ann E., Henson, William M., Allison Marion, Edward L., Thomas Bronston, Harriet, and Charles W. CARTER. Thomas was interred at Platte River Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa.
