Mt. Ayr, Ia. Jan 2, - Over 2,000 rats lost their lives last week in Rice and Middle Fork Townships as the result of a competitive hunt, with sixteen farmers on each side. The rodents have become an expensive nuisance in barns and corn cribs, so the hunt was planned, resulting in success beyond expectations of its promotors. The winner turned in 1, 260 rat tails to show for their week work, and on the strength of that evidence partook of an oyster supper at the expense of their opponents. A similar hunt near Redding resulted in almost as great success in the extermination of the pests.
