James "Clay" & Lelah Jane (GLENDENNING) DENNEY 50th Anniv.

April of 1961

Mr. and Mrs. Clay DENNEY entertained Easter Sunday with an Open House on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Hugh IRVING and Julia DENNEY presided at the guest book, which was signed by a large number of realtives and friends, who called toe xtends congratulations and best wishes. A grandson, Jimmie DENNEY, served as a host.

The dining table was graces with a four-tiered wedding cake, baked by the couple's daughter-in-law and granddaughters, and beautifully decorated by Mrs. Seth CAMPBELL. The cake was cut and served by Mrs. Lester DENNEY and punch and coffee were poured by Mrs. Bill JEFFERSON and Mrs. Walter HUDSON. Others who assisted with the serving were Mrs. Merritt DENNEY, Mrs. Rowe DENNEY, Ruth SAVILLE and Beverly DENNEY.

Nine persons, who attended the wedding fifty years ago, were present for the Open House - Virgie GLENDENNING, Mrs. Walter HARDEN, Mrs. Clarence CARTWRIGHT, Mrs. Steve GARTIN, Mrs. Bernard SAVILLE, Homer DENNEY, Rowe DENNEY, Mrs. Clara JEFFERSON and Mrs. Roy GLENDENNING.

Guests present from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Murray DERICKSON, Springfield, Ore.; Mr. and Mrs. Clyde SAVILLE and family, Maywood, Ill.; Mrs. Susie HOFFMAN, Webster Groves, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Howard WEBSTER and family, Parnell; Mr. and Mrs. H. R. DENNEY and family, Nashua; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence CARTWRIGHT, Garden Grove, and Mrs. Florence RITZ, Lizton, Ind.

James Clay DENNEY, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh DENNEY, and Lelah Jane GLENDENNING were united in marriage on April 5, 1911, in the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. GLENDENNING, of Mount Ayr.

The ceremony was performed by the Rev. I. B. HOLMAN, pastor of the Redidng (sic, should be Redding) Methodist church and attendants were Maude SHAFFER, Alma DENNEY and Elsie THERMAN, bridesmaids, and Jerry and Halley GLENDENNING and Bernard SAVILLE, groomsmen.

Mr. and Mrs. DENNEY lived in the Middle Fork neighborhood until 1927, when the purchased and moved to the home place of the bride's parents, which presently is occupied by their son and family. In 1941, the DENNEYS retired and moved to Mount Ayr, where they have since resided.

They are the parents of one son, Lester. They also include in their family circle a daughter-in-law, Mary Jane, and three grandchildren, Julia, Beverly and Jimmie DENNEY.
