Eleven top drivers from Adams County Speedway were honored at the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series awards banquet in Charlotte, NC on Friday, Dec. 9. The awards banquet, hosted by well known television commentators Mike JOY and Dick BERGAN was the finale of three days honoring top NASCAR drivers from across the nation.
GLENDENNING STATE CHAMP
Paul GLENDENNING from Mount Ayr was honored as the Adams County Speedway and state of Iowa champion. His awards included a trophy as well as a customized helmet and driver's suit. GLENDENNING sealed his championship on the final night of racing at ACS with a win over Griswold's JC WYMAN. David CARLISLE from Shannon City was honored as the Adams County Speedway rookie of the year in the feature division.
In the dirt class support divisions Adams County Speedway dominated the nation with nine of the twelve recipients invited to Charlotte claiming ACS as their home track. Neighboring I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, NE was second with two drivers attending.
In Division 3 Brad DERRY from Bedford, ACS track champion Jason ROLD of Avoca and Corning's own Tony HARDISTY were the top three honored on the podium.
Division 4 honorees were Matt McATEE of Waukee, Pat SHIFFETT of Diagonal and Jeremy AUTEN of Clarinda.
The Division 5 national top three were Bill GIBSON, Knoxville, Blain PETERSON, Essex, and Jerod WESTON, Red Oak.
The Adams County Speedway Champions banquet will be held at the Cass County Community Center in Atlantic on Saturday, Jan. 28. The event is open to the public and tickets are available at www.acspeedway.com.
