Clarinda Second for MAC Band

The Mount Ayr Raider Band placed second in class 2A in the street marching contest at the 55th annual Clarinda Band Jamboree in Clarinda Saturday.

The band was not in the top two in the field contest in the afternoon.

"After a full and exhausting week of homecoming activities, the band students spent another full day at the Clarinda Band Jamboree." said director Greg STORHOFF. "The students did a marvelous job on the street and were very impressive marching around the Clarinda square. It was definitely the best we marched in many years."

All the Class 2A bands at Clarinda were excellent, so the Raiders were very happy to place second, STORHOFF noted.

"We also marched very well for our field show, but unfortunately didn't place this year," he reported. "But, all in all it was a very successful day, and a great way to start the marching competition season."

In the 2A class street marching, Treynor placed first, Mount Ayr Community and Shenandoah tied for second and Underwood took fourth.

Other 2A schools competing in street marching were Griswold, Nodaway Valley and Tarkio, MO.

In the afternoon field contest, Treynor placed first and Underwood second in the competition where only two placings were announced. Other 2A schools competing were Mount Ayr Community, Nodaway Valley, Tri-Center and Shenandoah.

The 2010 marching band show is called "Motown Hits" and includes I Want You Back, Respect, the drumline feature Papa Was A Rolling Stone and Ain't No Mountain High Enough featuring Dustin PRITCHET, Emily FOX and Erin DOLECHECK.

The drum majors for the 2010 Raider marching band are Charmaine JOHNSON and Allie KANPP. Directors are Greg STORHOFF and Crystal STORHOFF.

Things for the band to improve on mentioned by the judges included the heel-toe step, memorizing music and playing with dynamic contrast.

The next contest for the Raider band is the Iowa High School Music Association State Marching Band Festival held at Glenwood high school stadium on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 10:50 a.m.
