Van LAAR Named Citizen of the Year

He has served his community, his country and his fellow man for over 40 years in Leon and Decatur County, and for this outstanding contribution Jack Van LAAR was honored with his Leon Citizen of the Year award for 2009.

Jack, Iowa State Extension Director until January of 2010, has been a part of Leon and county-wide activities. he has been a Leon City Council member, mayor, Historical Society member and officer, helped start the Decatur County Pheasants Forever chapter, and made his musical talents available to all, and been a major part of the Decatur County Fair and 4-H activities for almost 40 years. Prior to becoming Extension Director, he taught Voc Ag in the Mormon Trail School system. The committee stated that he is an outstanding representative of a person who cares to be involved in his community and helping youth.

NOTE: Jack graduated from Grand Valley Community School in 1970.
