EARLY SETTLERS of RINGGOLD COUNTY, 1844-1859

From 1852 until Ringgold was organized as a county in 1855, this area was a township of neighboring Taylor County. On June 29th of 1855, the judges of Ringgold and Taylor counties met to settle financial accounts. Charles Harrison SCHOOLER had collected $19.96 for the following:

County Tax, $5.00; State Tax, $3.26; School Tax $6.35; Bridge Tax, $5.35 - a total of $19.96.

Ringgold County's outstanding warrants were:

D. B. WILSON, $8.16; James M. TETHEROW, $1.02; William BARBER, $1.37; Joel CHAMBERS, $2.96; James M. TETHEROW, $5.00 - a total of $18.51.

Thus, Ringgold County began with a net capital of $1.45.
