1898A MODERN COUNTRY SCHOOLHOUSE.
The above is a picture of the schoolhouse in Eureka district, No. 8, Rice township. It was built last year at a cost of $500. Wayne KASTER is the sub-director in the district. He is also president of the township board, E. O. GLEASON being secretary and J. C. CURRY, treasurer.
The schoolhouse is 26x27 feet in size, with a seating capacity of 40. There is a cloak room and hallway. The chief merit of the building is that there is no direct sunlight, but according to hygienic principles the light is admitted from the north.
About 15 new country schoolhouses are to be built this year in Ringgold county, and probably many of them will be built on the plan of the one shown.
The citizens of Rice township should be accorded great credit for their enterprise in erecting such a modern builing on hygienic principles.
