To the citizens of Mt. Ayr, the ordinance restraining chickens from running at large in the town became effective today and notice is hereby given that the ordinance will be strictly enforced. H. M. MILLER, Mayor, Record-News April 1, 1913
NOTICE TO CHICKEN OWNERS:
We have an ordinance known as a chicken ordinance, and it has teeth in it. This ordinance has been tested in Mount Ayr and found effectual and (penalty) very severe. Our records show a fine of $5.00 and costs was paid as a penalty for allowing chickens to run at large inside of the incorporation. Word has come to the Mayor recently that some chickens are now running at large, so I take this method of giving you this information for your benefit. There is no open season for chickens running at large.
