Photographer: active Glenwood, Iowa, 1864; Plattville, Iowa 1865; Mount Ayr, Iowa, 1870

Cyrus Horace HICKENLOOPER was born on June 11, 1833, in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, the son of Thomas and Julia Ann (HAWKINS) HICKENLOOPER. On September 27, 1855, he married Sarah J. LOGAN. He probably was the photographer C. HICKENLOOPER who paid a $10 federal occupational tax in Glenwood, Iowa, in may 1864. HICKENLOOPER was a photographer in Plattville, Iowa, in 1865. In September 1867 he remarried to Nancy E. BRADLEY in Taylor County, Iowa. The 1870 census of Mount Ayr, iowa, described HICKENLOOPER as a thirty-seven-year-old photographer who owned $1,000 in real estate and $600 of personal property. At that time he and his wife Nancy had two Iowa-born children: Angelia HICKENLOOPER, two years of age, and Fannie HICKENLOOPER, nine months old. HICKENLOOPER died on September 29, 1923; he is buried in Oakview Cemetery, lot 20, Troy Township, Monroe County, Iowa.

Cyrus HICKENLOOPER taught school in rural Monroe County, 1896.

T. B. HICKENLOOPER
Photographer: active Bedford, Iowa 1865; Clear Lake, Iowa, 1878; Garner, Iowa, 1878; Albia, Iowa, 1879; Eddyville, Iowa, 1879, 1880.

A November 1865 Internal Revenue tax roll identified T. B. HICKENLOOPER as a photographer in Bedford, Iowa. By the late 1870's HICKENLOOPER was operating as an intinerant photographer in Iowa. In late July 1878 he operated for one week out of a photographic tent in Garner; he specialized in "copying and enlarging old pictures." After leaving Garner, HICKENLOOPER transported his family and tent to Clear Larke. An Eddyville newspaper noted that "Mr. HICKLENLOOPER, artist of Albia. . . was in town" on July 18, 1879. Evidently he was T. B. HICKENLOOPER, who made a brief return visit to Eddyville in September and October 1880. A local newspaper noted that he was doing business in "the well known gallery building."
