RINGGOLD COUNTY PIONEERS MARRIED SIXTY YEARS

MT. AYR, Ia., Feb. 25. - (Special.) -

Archibald McMULLEN was born May 18, 1822, in Jefferson county, Ohio, and when three years old his father's family moved to Coshocton county, Ohio, where he grew up to manhood.

Susan McCLAIN, his wife, was born in Coshocton county, Ohio, Nov. 22, 1822, and they grew up together in the same school district; and on the 5th day of February, 1844, were united in marriage, and did rugged pioneer work on the farm and in clearing up the forest until the year 1858, when they moved to Ringgold county, Iowa, and improved a farm in Monroe township, where they continued to live until they became too old to labor, and now make their home with their daughter, Mrs. ROBERTS. Though nearly worn out in body, they are bright in mind and spirit. They have born to them nine children. They have 25 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. They united with the Methodist Episcopal church when quite young, and have held membership for more than sixty years.

"Uncle Arch," as he is commonly called, voted in the campaign of 1844 for Henry Clay, in 1848 for General Zach Taylor, in 1852 for General Scott, and has since voted for all of the republican candidates without an exception.

The descent of the family on both sides is pure Irish.

NOTE: Archibald died on September 6, 1907. Susan died at the age of 91 in 1913. They were interred at Oliver Cemetery.
