Shaffer to observe 90th birthday

The family of Juanita (MAIN) SHAFFER of Atascadero, CA are planning a card shower in honor of her 90th birthday anniversary, which will be October 16.

She will be in Mount Ayr on that day and is bringing several of her paintings, which will be on display at the Senior Citizen Activity Center in Mount Ayr and she will be there in the afternoon to visit with friends.

Shafer has art show at center

Paintings and painted porcelain by California artist Juanita (MAIN) SHAFFER, 90, were on display at the Senior Citizen Activity Center in Mount Ayr, Thursday, October 16.

SHAFFER, who was born in Mount Ayr, has been identified with the fast growing arts and crafts movement for the past 30 plus years, first as owner/operator of an arts and crafts business in the Los Angeles, CA, area, and later as a charter member of the Colorful Sabado y Dominto Art Association in Santa Barbara, CA.

She has studied art with teachers such as Claude BECK and Don PAULSON and had courses at the Santa Barbara School of Art, Trompe I'Oeil at the University of California-Santa Barbara and has studied with other private art instructors in many classes and seminars.

She is noted for her paintings and also for her accomplishments in porcelain art.

SHAFFER is currently a member of the Atascadero Art Association in Atascadero, CA, the Santa Barbara Porcelain Artists Association in Santa Barbara, CA, and the International Porcelain Artists and Teachers Association.

She came back to visit family in Ringgold county from her California home and brought the pieces for the display at the Senior Citizens Activity Center.

Local family members include her brothers, Marvin and Lyle MAIN, and her sisters, Doris RULE and LaViece BARKER.
