JAMES STANLEY FAMILY

James T. (Jim) and Rosa STANLEY moved to the Maloy area from Oklahoma about 1914. Jim was born January 9, 1882, in Virginia, Illinois; and Rosa (ROSENBURG) was born February 3, 1899 in Bloomington, Illinois. They were married July 18, 1909.

They had seven children: John, Bertha, George, Clarence, Ola, James and Donald. The first three were born in Oklahoma, and the others after they had moved to the Maloy area. All attended the Maloy school.

John married in Oregon where he worked as a lumberjack. He was killed in 1944 at the age of 34 in a falling three accident. He had six children.

Bertha married Walter LEHRKAMP, and they made their home in South Dakota. All of their five children are living in that state.

George married Lucille FINE, and they owned an operated a farm in the New Market area for 33 years. After retiring they moved to New Market where they now live. George says that in addition to attending Maloy school, he also drove a mule-drawn "school wagon." He took a load of rural children to and from school each day over roads that might be dusty, muddy, covered with snow or whatever. Nothing but mules coule have made the trip.

He also cherished memories of participating in basketball, particularly in 1930 when the team took part in the State Tournament. George also played in 1931 and 1932 when Maloy again fielded fine teams.

He served 4 1/2 years in the U.S. Army seeing acting in Germany where he took part in the "Battle of the Bulge."

Ola married Bill HEALD. They and their three children made their home in Colorado.

Clarence also served in the army in Germany. He married Jessie HARGIN from Clearfield. They have always made their home in Omaha and are the parents of three children.

James married Norma HIGDON from Maloy. They had three children and lived around Maloy and later in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Donald died with scarlett fever at the age of 6 in 1933.

Jim died March 28, 1963 at the age of 81, and Rosa died May 2, 1982 at the age of 93.

NOTES: James Thomas STANLEY, son of John Wilson and Mary Elizabeth (PASLEY) STANLEY, was born in Virginia, Cass County, Illinois, and died at the age of 81 years on March 28, 1963. He married Rosa Eltha ROSENBURG on July 18, 1909. Rosa, the daughter of Alfred R. and Elizabeth Amanda (CLIFT) ROSENBURG, was born in Bloomington, McLean County, Illinois on February 3, 1889, and died at Mount Ayr, Iowa at the age of 93 years on May 2, 1982. They were interred at Platte River Cemetery near Maloy.

John Alfred STANLEY was born in Wagoner, Oklahoma on July 8, 1910 and died from a logging accident on November 13, 1944, Eugene, Oregon. He was interred at West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Eugene, Oregon. John married Helen LaVerne BRABHAM. Helen was born in Eugene, Oregon on January 26, 1913, the daughter of Benjamin and Bessie (QUINN) BRABHAM. She married second Walter ROBERTS who died in 1977. Helen died July 6, 2008, with interment at West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Eugene, Orgeon. Harold Alfred STANLEY, son of John Alfred and Helen, was born in Lane County, Oregon on April 18, 1943, and died December 5, 2006, Eugene, Oregon. He was interred at West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Bertha (STANLEY) LEHRKAMP married Walter August KEHRKAM who was born on February 12, 1934, and died on June 25, 1998, Keyston, South Dakota. He was interred at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, South Dakota. Walter was a Veteran,serving as a PFC in the U.S. Army.

James Eugene STANLEY was born February 5, 1924, and died at the age of 75 years on January 26, 2000. He was interred at Platte River Cemetery near Maloy.

Donald Leo STANLEY was born July 7, 1926, and died at the age of six on February 15, 1933. He was interred at Platte River Cemetery near Maloy.
