Pennings deployed to Afghanistan with Guard air unit

Captain DeAnna FARIS PENNINGS is currently deployed to Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, as the executive officer and flight commander in the Fourth Expeditionary Reconnaissance Squadron. She is scheduled to return to the United States in late fall.

Her duties as an executive officer include assisting the squadron commander with various projects to include expanding the squadron's facilities to enhance mission effectiveness. The squadron flies the MC-12 aircraft and the primary mission is providing intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support directly to ground troops.

"I have the opportunity to support a mission which considerably aids and impacts the mission here in Afghanistan," Capt. PENNINGS said. "The Fourth ERS significantly assists the ground troops when they are out on missions. In the short time I have been here, I have found this to be a very rewarding experience and adventure."

She is a member of the 185th Air Refueling Wing in Sioux City (Iowa Air National Guard) and is employed with the State of Iowa as a regional administrator of six child support recovery units on the west side of Iowa.

Capt. PENNINGS is a 1993 graduate of Mount Ayr Community high school, a 1977 graduate of Simpson College in Indianola and received her master's degree in public administration from the University of South Dakota in 2002.
