THE LARGEST FAMILY of BOYS in RINGGOLD COUNTY
Frank STEWART was born in Pennsylvania in 1830, and Jane HENDERSON was born in Ohio in 1831. They were married in Gurensey County, Ohio, in 1858. They moved to Illinois immediately and settled near Little York, Warren County, on a farm. To them were born thirteen children, all boys. All grew to manhood except Palmer, the third child, who died when about two-years-old. These thirteen boys were all born in Warren County, Illinois.
Mr. and Mrs. STEWART were members of the United Presbyterian Church, but in later years they joined the Seven-Day Adventist. All their children were baptized in the United Presbyterian Church.
The family moved to Iowa in 1884, and settled on a farm 2 1/2 miles northeast of Eugene and 3 1/2 miles northwest of Tingley.
At this writing, November 16, 1936, six children are dead and seven are living. The mother [Jane (HENDERSON) STEWART] passed away in July, 1896, at the age of 65 years and the father passed away in 1918, aged 88 years.
The first child was John R. STEWART, who married Marie LORIMER of Ringgold County. She is dead, but he is living in Montana. He was four boys and four grandchildren. He was a jeweler. He also served as postmaster for years. He had one son in the World War I returned home.
The second son was William W. STEWART, who married Anna MAY. They lived for years at Tingley, but now live in Mount Ayr. He still follows his occupation of Auctioneer. They had six children, four are living now; six grandchildren and one great-grandchil. They had two boys in the World War. Both got home but Clay C. STEWART died in the Veteran Hospital at Des Moines, May 21, 1935. The other son, Glenn STEWART, is on the detective force in Phildelphia, Pa., and Paul P. STEWART worked under Rex TUGWELL until last year. He now lived at Blacksburg, Virginia. The two daughters, Mrs. Tell TODD and Mrs. Roy MILLER and their families live in Oklahoma.
The third sone was Palmer, who lived about two years and died.
The fourth son was Edwin W. STEWART, who was never married and is dead now.
The fifth son was Willis STEWART, a twin, was a street car conductor in Chicago for 35 years. He was married, but had no children. He is dead now.
The sixth was a twin, Lewis B. STEWART, who was a school professor and teacher in Des Moines. He had seven children. He is dead now.
Andrew, the seventh son, is married. He has no children. He lives in Columbus, Ohio, and runs an ice plant.
The eigth son is Jesse T. O. STEWART, and was married and lived at Omaha, Nebraska. He was an attorney and real estate dealer. He had no children. He died in October, 1936.
The ninth son is Earnest M. STEWART. He is married andhas two children. he is a manager for a lumber company at Winfield, Iowa.
The tenth son was Thomas B. STEWART. He is married and has two children. He lives at Cedar Falls, Iowa, and is a school professor and teacher.
The Eleventh son is Charles R. STEWART. He is married and has three children. He lives in Des Moines and is a school professor in North High.
The twelfth son is Fred H. STEWART. He is married and has three sons. He is a professor and teacher at North High in Des Moines, Iowa.
The thirteenth son is Burris H. STEWART, who is married and has one child. He was a printer at McCook, Nebraska. He is dead now.
None of this large family lives in Ringgold County except William W. and wife, and their own family all live out of the state.
