"W. T. SMITH, proprietor of livery, sale and feed stable, Redding, was born in Jefferson County, Iowa, August 23, 1845, son of William and Catharine Smith. He was reared on a farm and educated in the common schools. Upon arriving at the age of manhood he married Miss Elizabeth Burton, and they had four children -- Omar, Sarah Belle, Violet and Allie May. Mrs. Smith died in 1881, and January 6, 1884, Mr. Smith was married to Melvina Stewart. He came to Ringgold County in 1870, locating on section 7, Middle Fork Township, where he improved eighty acres of land. He now owns 212 acres of well-cultivated and well improved land. He followed farming until 1886, when he removed to Redding. He keeps good stock and his carriages and driving horses are of the best. He is also engaged in draying. Mrs. Smith is proprietor of "Mrs. Smith's Millinery Store" at Redding, where she carries a large stock of millinery, such as is usually kept in a first-class millinery store in larger towns. Mr. and Mrs. Smith are enterprising, courteous and accommodating, and richly deserve the public patronage."
