Funeral Rites for Charles Appleby, 88, Held Here Sunday

Funeral services for Charles B. Appleby, 88, of Route 1, Malcom, were held Sunday afternoon at James funeral home here. Conducted by the Rev. J. Carter Jr.
Pallbearers were Austin Appleby, Henry Ahrens, Ed Erickson and Earl Aletrson. Music was by Mrs. Dolph Miller and Mrs. Roscoe Dempster.
Interment was in Ivy Hill cemetery, with graveside survices conducted by Lilly lodge #254, A. F. & A. M. of Malcom.
Appleby died at a local hospital Friday morning following an illness of two weeks.
Born in Norway Sept. 17, 1865. Appleby had been a resident of the Grinnell area ever since coming to this country as a child.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Stella Stone of Grand Junction; and two sons, Reno B. of Vinton and Clarence. The latter lived with his father on the home place on No. 6 just west of the 6-63 junction. A brother, Andrew Appleby of Des Moines, also survives.
Appleby was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, in July of 1952. also four sisters and two brothers.
