Janet L. Hasselbrink, 84, of Grinnell, died on March 18, 2021, at her home with her family by her side and under the care of UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Hospice.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Dondrea Walker, First Baptist Church in Marion, officiating. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
Visitation with the Hasselbrink family present will be held one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be designated to UnityPoint Hospice.
The funeral service will be live-streamed on the Smith Funeral Home Facebook page beginning at 12:45 p.m., or 15 minutes prior to the start of the service.
Janet was born on July 6, 1936, in Grinnell, the daughter of Frank A. and Beatrice Playle LaGrange. She was raised in Grinnell and for a few years in Southern California. Her family returned to Grinnell in the early 1940s and she was a 1954 graduate of Grinnell High School; she later attended AIB in Des Moines.
On August 19, 1956, she was united in marriage to Wayne Howard Hasselbrink, in Grinnell. Janet was employed as a secretary at G.T.E. and later took a leave to raise her two children. She returned to G.T.E. and retired from there in 1994.
Janet was a fun-loving mom, and loved sharing her time with her grandchildren. She was active in Jaycees and the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing golf, and held a passion for playing Bridge. She loved to cross-stitch and knit, shopping, and watching reality TV shows.
She is survived by her two children, Lynn (David) Dougherty of Cedar Rapids and Brent (Tammie) Hasselbrink of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Aaron (Renae) Wade, Sean (Kelly) Wade, Christopher Hasselbrink, and Eliya Hasselbrink; five great-grandchildren, Zoey Lewis, and Eden, Shaelynn, Brycen, and Makyla Wade; and one brother, Richard (Gloria) LaGrange of Muncie, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne in 1996; one brother, Franklin LaGrange, Jr.; and one sister, Donna Brown.
